Finding balance in an out of balance world

Finding balance in an out of balance world is not an easy ask. And yet, it is our task.

As we enter the Equinox and the point where we have an equal amount of daylight and night sky, let us be reminded of our inherent connection to the cosmos, to the natural world, all of its beings, and to our own humanity. If we look at what is happening in our shared world, we will inevitably feel overwhelmed. This overwhelm can manifest in anger, in attempts to take flight, in freezing, or in a state of submission. But it doesn’t have to lead us there.

Turning our focus away from the doom scrolling that social media algorithms encourage, or the redundancy in the news stories that corporate-run media hurls onto our psyche, and instead focusing our attention on the regulation of our own nervous system is the essential first step toward balancing in an unbalanced world.

What supports you to find balance?

It could be belly-breathing, maybe it is grounding into your feet, or reaching out to someone who loves you.

If we widen that lens, we may also see that Mother Earth Herself, is our natural balance teacher.

To feel this for yourself, take your belly-breathing further. Allow yourself to feel how with each inhale you receive, Mother Earth is naturally breathing into you. And with your exhale, you are in-turn breathing back into Her. Go a bit further with grounding into your feet and actually find a spot to lay down (a park, the beach, or even in your office on the floor). Allow yourself to feel that something larger is holding you as you pause for 5-10 minutes in your busy day. Everything you are laying on, all the structures underneath you have come from Nature, feel them in their essential forms. If it is reaching for connection that helps bring you into balance, widen your reach to include those that love you--and also strangers you pass on the street, or stand next to in the grocery store. A simple smile, or a kind gesture goes a long way in balancing our shared experiences.

We can certainly broaden our balancing acts further, and we need to. But this is a way to start. And I encourage you to begin here. Not just today on our Equinox, but each day. Watch how your resilience grows. Experience how kindness begins to lead—the kindness you show yourself, and that which ripples out to your community.

Regeneration is simple, but getting to that mindset can feel complex because of how we have been molded into living from a degenerative framework rather than a regenerative one. The first shift is about balance. And truly examining where we are personally out of balance.

Let’s start there, together.
